Finding My Creative Self 🧩
It’s easy to lose touch with our creative selves. Finding a way back is more complex than having ideas for creative projects you want to explore. You have to actually pursue them!
My career has taken me from my beginnings in traditional visual design and art methods to technology as graphic design skills morphed into interface and web design skills. That was exciting, but I have always felt that missing piece of myself that is only filled by art and design.
I recently helped a relative with a logo design project for a client of hers and quickly felt that old, familiar, less frequent spark of creativity. The excitement of exploring design options, composition, and color drove me to hours of design work late into the evenings. The client loved the final designs, and so did I!
The experience felt so natural to my being. I missed it!
I realized I needed more of this feeling in my life. I need to return to my creative roots and give myself time each week to work on an art, photography, or design project. I have plenty of ideas, but like I said at the beginning of this post, I have to actually pursue them!
🔥 What’s next?
- It’s time to pull out the art projects I have supplies for but have yet to begin.
- It’s time to volunteer design help to a non-profit again that can’t afford it but needs it.
- It’s time to be “Albert the Artist” again! (That was a nickname of mine as a kid for many years.)
As we get caught up in the daily activities of careers and families, it’s essential to pause and see if there’s a missing piece in you that’s been nagging to be filled. Start with something new and see if a spark takes hold for you!
